Our Citizenship classes will help you prepare by discussing civics and government questions, reading and writing English, and practicing your interview skills.

Every week, our focus will be for you to practice every component of the interview. In addition to covering the civics questions, we'll conduct mock interviews and incorporate “small talk" activities, practice how to respond to basic commands, how to ask for clarification or for repetition if you don't understand what is being asked by the USCIS officer, and work on the reading and writing sections of the interview.

Admin & N400 SmalltalkBefore the interview starts, the officer might ask you first some simple “small talk” questions (about every day life) to be friendly and make you feel comfortable. The purpose is to see if you understand basic English.

Each week, we'll go through one of the N-400 sections. We'll focus on one segment of the Citizenship Interview Questions, below. We'll also work through the questions in a Practice Interview, section by section, a Citizenship Bootcamp interview and a Ready for the Interview recap.

Each week, we'll review last week's civics questions (from Practice Interviews & Qs) and then go through one of the USCIS list of Civics topics. We'll also have a look at a different President (& quiz), Lessons on US Presidents, US holidays (Learn American Holidays) and also Top 10 American ... (symbols, landmarks, etc.), 50 States each week. We'll use resources such as CLINIC, EL Civics Online, "Preparing for the Oath" , Udemy's "Ace the Test", Essa's US Citizenship Course and "About the USA".

Preparing for Citizenship
The Citizenship Interview can be broken down into roughly 7 different sections. In addition to learning the core civics content areas, it is incredibly important for students to practice going through these aspects of the interview:

Step-Up InterviewsEvery week, we'll work on a more difficult Naturalization Mock interview. We'll go from a Beginning interview (just 10 questions) to Elementary (15 questions) and right up to practicing the whole interview. We'll also go through an N400 Bootcamp Interview and listen to a mock interview

Citizenship ReviewWe'll go through one of 10 study guides that will cover 10 questions, reading aloud, dictations and a mini interview. There'll be a Mix and Match Quiz on P2 of that Study Guide.

- To finish the class, you'll have the opportunity to work through Minnesota Literacy Council's online citizenship curriculum.
- You can also work your way through online practice tests.
- Work through Listen and Read Along's 100 questions & EZ Civics.
- There are also vocabulary exercises at Learning Chocolate.
- USCIS Interactive Practice Tests
